Distribution of the fire salamander in 2024-2025

The Fire salamander Salamandra salamandra is a protected species that can live for around 20 years.

It is widely distributed in France. Most of the gaps in the map are probably due to a lack of data rather than the actual absence of the species. We therefore invite you to enter your observations on Faune-France, NaturaList or local partner portals in order to improve our knowledge of the detailed distribution of this salamander.

Mainly active at night, it is particularly visible after summer and autumn rains. It is best to look for it in wooded areas and dense hedgerows.
