Migratory return of the Willow Warbler in 2024

The Willow Warbler Phylloscopus trochilus is a highly migratory species. Hundreds of thousands of birds cross France on their way to countries to the north and north-east. During their stopovers in France, they sing. We must therefore avoid attributing breeding codes to these individuals that are simply passing through, and wait for the actual nesting colonies.

Image caption: The Common Yellowthroat looks a lot like the Swift Yellowthroat. It differs from it in that its wings are longer, its legs are lighter and, above all, its song is much more elaborate (see our sound gallery). © Gaëtan Delaloye.
