Migratory return of the Redstart in 2024
The Redstart Phoenicurus phoenicurus is a strictly migratory passerine that winters in Africa and returns to Europe in summer.
This species returns later than its congeners, the Black Redstart. Most of the records prior to 15 March are probably the result of confusion with this species.
The Redstart prefers open woodland and can be seen in mature forests as well as in parks, orchards and wooded gardens.
