Siskin Autumn migration 2021

Siskin Carduelis spinus is a fairly localized breeder in France, but it has a much larger winter distribution. The species prefers riparian valleys with lots of alder trees, and birch forests.

Fond of small seeds, it is becoming more and more common in gardens, where it is often seen at feeders.

During migration, Siskin can be discovered almost everywhere, thanks to the almost constant contact calls from the birds in movement. The contact calls are shrill and wheezing.

Migratory passage numbers increase from the end of September to peak in mid-October These are mainly birds from the Baltic countries and Fennoscandia.

The affluence of the species varies greatly from year to year. Will 2021 be a good vintage?
